For me he has gone from hero to zero, I read his first book when it first came out I thought the bloke could walk on water, but now even taking EPO out of the equation it is clear that he uses people and then dumps them.

It makes me feel quite sad.

I don't know if he's nice or not but I admire his sporting achievements even without the fact that he recovered from life threatening illness (although I'm certainly no fanboy) and on top of that his charity is doing a lot of good work. He doesn't come across as someone I'd like to go on the town with but then my first impressions of people who have gone on to be good friends weren't always positive. It takes a long time to get to know someone well enough to make an informed decision.

Love the guy, think he gets bad press, as WE don't know what he's REALLY like.

Tuff, determined, focussed, single-minded, incredible indomitable-spirit...Nuff said.
Ok, not the best Husband/Father of all time, but it takes-2-to-tango...

We can all be A-Holes at times, but famous people are magnets for other A-Holes to cling to.

Got a mate who just moved to Austin, Texas, and has invited me over at any time.
If I go, I want to time it to "bump into" Lance at his shop.

Greatest Tour winner ever, one of the youngest World Champions, kicked arse in the Leadville 100, ex-Triathlete... What's not to like?
  • I admire Lance for his sporting achievements. Again, I can't comment on what he's like personally as I've not had the privilege of meeting him. I am definitely looking forward to his attempts on the Tour of Flanders and the TdF this year :-)

Better tune in early then. He's unlikely to be involved in the last 40km.
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.

Well that bloody sucks then :-) Most TV stations only show the last 1/2 hour of the damned race...

Hasn't he only been married once? Perhaps your copy of Hello can tell you:wink: . Who cares what he's like. His mum and J.Bruyneel like him and the many people who have been treated for Cancer or been inspired by him. I'm sure J.Button/L.Hamilton/B.Hinault and others all have/had their detractors. It's all about results and keeping the sponsors happy

They do hate each other. LA called him a w**ker last summer. I think it's because they're too similar. Put them in a room together they'd either fight or make long, vigorous man-love.

Errrr..........The lies, the hypocrisy, the bullying, the drugs, the disrespect, the arrogance, the list could go on but what's the point, we've all formed our opinions.

Does anyone think Bryneel and Hincapie for example really like him, or is it the case they need him and/or are scared of him.

I don't like him, never have; there's something about him.... Still he has as much right as me to walk this earth!!!
I think this sums him up. Enjoy!

    Artist: Tracy Byrd
    Song: Biggest Thing in Texas
    Album: Different Things

There's never been a Texan who's ever been outdone
He'll outbig the biggest for spite or for fun
He's got bigger tractors and bigger trucks
Bigger and of course bigger bucks

But pride is the biggest thing in Texas
It's the only thing bigger than the land that we love
And we got big down to the letter, we ain't saying we're no better
It just seems like out in Texas there's more to be proud of

Broke or broken won't show in his eyes
He'll never back down and he'll never say die
See he's naturally a Texan the day he is born

But pride is the biggest thing in Texas
It's the only thing bigger than the land that we love
And we got big down to the letter, we ain't saying we're no better
It just seems like out in Texas there's more to be proud of

If you can't love it or fight it
Rope it or ride it, shoot it or sip it
What the hell good is it

There's never been a Texan who's ever been outdone
He'll outbig the biggest for spite or for fun
He's got bigger tractors and bigger trucks

I think that 'rhyme' was simplistic and ridiculous and a slur on these poor people. I have never heard such a utter rot and can't beleive that in a modern society that people should spew out this total and utter tosh. It is borderline Texasanism...Texanistism...Texasanacist...b'gger...I can't think of a name for it.

PS- I overheard Lance once and he said he didn't care what we thought. I thought "you big headed man; typical from a man from the Lone Star State... "

the chest pounding and inflated opinions of himself

I'm with the 'I don't really like him but can admire his success as a cyclist and appreciate that he is an icon for many' brigade'.

What goes around, comes around though, and one day his past will catch up with him. Although I suspect that that day is going to be far, far in the future.

I have no idea what he would be like in person. A huge ego, yet charming I suspect, but I'll never know. He's inspired thousands, probably millions and even although I get annoyed at those who think that Livestrong was the first cancer charity, I have to respect that.

No, I think they were comments about Lance Armstrong that were made by somebody recently...

  • I don't think he is "nice", I don't care either - I still like him regardless. Would very happily sit down for a beer as I would imagine he is interesting. I'd rather talk to an interesting person then a "nice" one, but that might just be me - especially considering "nice" people are just people who are nice in more situations. Everyone is an asshole some of the time and nice some of the time.

I do think the "Charming bully" comment from above was quite accurate however - he has made me like Contador more then I would otherwise. I think the moral of the story is quite clear, don't be his rival or someone he becomes obsessed with. Personally, I'm quite happy to give up my chance of winning the 2010 TDF to avoid any conflict with old buddy lance. :D

Ivan Basso thiks he's a nice guy, and with good reason - Lance really helped his mother out when she had cancer.

Lance isn't all bad or mean to everyone. He's done some fantastic things for a lot of people in need, and also some bad things to other people (Simeoni?)
  • To be fair to lance, if i was in his position and could afford my own personal loo Id have one too.

Doesn't this remind you of his digs at Bert?

I think Mr Moray Gub; we get the point. In a fair and lovely world we are all equal etc etc.
I must admit I did enjoy the song/ryme about Texans as I thought this forum was ending up a liitle sureal.
I was going to ask Ms Tee if she had any songs about Spain and it's people, in the same style for AC but no (for the purposes of balance).
I once had the pleasure of standing next to Lance (pre cancer) as he said bye to Sean Yates on Sean's last race as a Pro. Lance and Sean seemed to be having a pleasant conversation and with that nugget of information I conclude that he seemed alright.
I have read about 3 books on him and he seems to be a chap who would bring home a Cat from the local animal rescue centre and would have Kitten Pie in the oven.
A man of extremes. Most bike riders are a bit nuts though so maybe he's good and bad with a little bit in between. I wouldn't like to be on the wrong side though.
