Can anyone recommend any of these through personal use, please?

Looking for the best prices, I've just Googled three companies and the feedback/reviews are very worrying. Just don't want to end up dealing with the 'DH' of the camera world!! Thanks.

+1 for warehouse express - very reliable IME. (To be fair to the high street, I've always found Jessops happy enough to price match though)

Thank you all for replying. I'll check them out. I'm getting one of these dj and see Pixmania is listed.

  • Warehouse Express are reliable but can be quite expensive. Jessops are quite good for camera bodies, but for lenses and other accessories I avoid them as they are expensive.

Another thought... you could also ask a more expert audience on a eerily similar-sounding forum:

I bought my camera from Pixmania and it was cheap with a fast delivery, however the manual was in French...sacre bleu!
    CAAD9
    Kona Jake the Snake
    Merlin Malt 4
  • Warehouse Express every time. I've always found them to be cheap.

Jessops are the Dixons/PC World of the camera market - go if you want to haggle and know exactly what you want but be prepared to face uninterested, know-nothing box-shifting staff. Makes my blood boil on the rare occasions I have to go there.

Assuming you'd want to give your LBS your custom over a faceless megacorp though, why not look for a LCS near you? I always use Kingsley Photographic on Tottenham Court Road in London - not the cheapest but they know their stuff.
Litespeed Tuscany, Hope/Open Pro, Ultegra, pulling an Extrawheel trailer, often as not.

  • Pixmania sent me a free camera by mistake. My favourite type of online retailer.

I've used Warehouseexpress before. They can be very good on price, but their service was appalling to the point of rude when I had a problem.

Try this site. It's a price comparison for Nikon/Canon. Very good site.

Got my wife's DSLR from Amazon, was way cheaper than a specialist retailer but that was a few years back. When I had a fault with it I had to return it to Canon's repair centre myself but that would probably be the case with any online retailer and it was still repaired under warranty.

I suspect the Jessops comments are specific to one shop because I've been using one shop in Market Street in Aberdeen for the best part of the last 13 years since I moved here. Always helpful and ALWAYS know their stuff. I will haggle because I know what I'm after and I know the best prices around, they will price match.

Online I use Warehouse Express, they always seem to have the best prices for Canon DSLR kit. There are a number of other shops around with good websites, check some of them out before you buy.

Try London Camera Exchange. Especially if there's one local to you.

last few times I've bought stuff like that I've found Amazon to be cheapest.

I'd avoid Pixmania cos they are not physically based in the UK and returns / warranty claims can be a nightmare by all accounts.

+1 for LCE, I got a new lens for my DSLR from these guys just after christmas, not only did they price match an internet deal (£95, down from the original £140 seen in the shop), they also then gave me 10% off a bag without even asking!

I used Jacobs once who were cheap and excellent. Also Park Cameras in Sussex IIRC who was excellent as well. V quick dispatch and very well packaged. 2nd all the comments about Jessops. They are expensive. Are they still going I thought that they'd gone bust? For consumables 7DayPhoto in the Channel Islands is cheapest.

I've used Camerabox a couple of times and they were cheap and quick to deliver. Not had to return anything though, so can't comment on that.

I've used Mifsuds who very very good and also SRS Microsystems. But for memory cards & batteries etc the play.com or Amazon are your best bet.

I've been using Ffordes for FD stuff
They also have a load of EOS stuff.
Not had to return anything yet.

Tend to go to boots for Film now though
Their 3 for 2 offer is rather amusing,

Short date Sensia process paid, 3 quid a roll, 3 for 2.
If it wasn't for the fridge real estate being taken up by food I would have cleaned them out of it.

Also good when they have HP5 process paid in stock.

Now, 1 and only roll of Kodachrome in a camera and need to use it ASAP, what can I shoot?
