We had a ball on the Middlewood Way today. He went off like a rocket on his new second hand Beinn 24 we did six miles in 45 min. I think he thought he was Lance Armstrong! So much fun.

That looks good too! Cheers Bob.
Someone also recommended, the Tissington Trail, saying there were scones on route as well [url http://www.cressbrook.co.uk/visits/tisstrail.php[/url].

It's a bit further out from you but the Worsley loop lines are great for kids.
It's the old railway line which is now a walking/cycling route. If you start at Monton Green (near Eccles) you can cycle for quite a distance without hitting any traffic or major hills. It is being resurfaced at the moment but can get quite muddy in places.
The main line takes you almost to Bolton but it's easy to turn off at a variety of places and make your way back along the canal or through Worsley golf course (on a dedicated path).
This is one map that's been listed by a jogger - http://www.walkjogrun.co.uk/routes/curr ... 527B8DABFC0 -

The Tissington Trail is fantastic for kids. Although it does get very busy in the warmer weather. My girls did a ride of over 30 miles on it when one was 6 and the other 8.
The scenery is stunning - you are cycling through a very hilly picturesque area - but the track is almost flat as it is an old railway line
What I would recommend though is you start your ride at Ashbourne. On the outward leg it is very, very slightly uphill - hardly noticeable on fresh young legs. However, on the return leg those tired legs will appreciate the downhill bits a lot more!
There are plenty of places to stop and have an ice cream or something to eat as well.
Well worth the trip
