You can't link to routes in bikehike anymore so I can't see the route, but I do know that there isn't a road all the way round Derwent reservoir. The road goes up the west side, but its just a track down the east side.
    More problems but still living....

Not many road races in peak any more - used to be a few like

Whitworth Show RR near Matlock - Bakewell, Buxton, towards Ashbourne and back over Longcliffe to Whitworth
Harpur Hill at Buxton, Axe Edge RR at Buxton, Doveholes RR
One that started in Sheff (Redmires), up Moscar, down to Ladybower, Bamford, Hathersage, Ringinglow back to Redmires, 2 laps of that!
    Bull i' Thorn RR
Tour of Peak of course, plus a few more, but most of these are gone.

There is a TLI one at Flagg/Monyash this year though
  • What was the route of the Tour of the Peak? Am I right in thinking in went up Winnats Pass and the Snake Pass? When did they stop running it (and why)?

I saw it maybe 4 years ago - so it was still running up to quite recently - though I think the route changed.

If I remember correctly the police escort was running unpaid by the race for some years - when the chief copper found out they had to start charging which created problems. I think Planet X stepped in and saved it one year but in the longer term I think it was just the race couldn't afford to pay for the required police rolling road closure.

As far as grass roots races in the Peak goes I don't know about further north but I don't know of any decent circuits up to sort of mid Derbyshire way that are still useable.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.
