Currently into technical single track and xc. ride a customised hardtail.

been looking to start DH, wondering if this is a good budget frame to start on? and maybe thinking of buying some 318's to go with it:)

If by DH you mean downhill rather than down-a-hill, then no, it's a cross country frame; not built to take that much abuse (and if you mean Tora 318's then they aren't either.)
What kinda budget do you have?

  • I don't know much about the frame but looking at the description it has 4.2'' of travel and the frame has XC in the name.

I would therefore think it is built really for XC not downhill.

What sort of downhilling do you want to start doing?

  • Dawgma is a bit more of an All mountain Frame. Still not Downhill, but closer than the other one.

Toras are most certanly NOT downhill forks no.

Also, why are you looking at buying from a US site? You know you'll have additional UK taxes to pay on anything you ship right?

    What's your total budget for:

    Frame
    Forks
    Everything else

and have you thought about just buying a complete bike?
  • Downhill forks....

an good custom spec DH bike would cost 3k plus if I was building it. Forks are 800+ alone, and a new frame will cost 1500+

I'd probably buy a giant glory or kona stab or similar for a first DH bike.

£600tops for the frame. And then id build around it as a project=)

Ah okayy, well that shows the extent of my DH knowledge  :D

So whats the difference between Downhill and Down a Hill? :P

Sorry, bit of an off the cuff comment... most people on here when they want a downhill bike, mean for riding, well, down a hill (woodland singletrack etc) not downhill (Fort Bill, Sam Hill etc.)
For that kind of money it ight be worth looking seccond hand.

NOT a DH frame (its a slopestyle) but is good for big hit riding, you could go for some 160mm forks on there (would need to check) and a burly set of parts for big-hit riding.

You can't put triple clamps on there, but you can do some light DH on singlecrown forks suck as the Lyrik/Domain etc

If you're after a big DH bike build and cheap then:
    Frame - Giant Faith 2006 - £350
    Fork - Rockshox Domain 318 2009 - £300

That's £650 for a decent frame and fork.
The frame may be older model but it's new and in my opinion has plenty of strenght.

Btw, what size drops and jumps are you planing of doing?
Because you might be better with a different frame and a lighter build.
