Anyone doing this? We're off up t'grim north to see the out-laws over the weekend so I've opted for this 60+ miler round Tod, Myrthlroyd, & a loop back down Blackstone Edge on Sunday morning. As the first half is pretty much my favourite route when we go up there it shouldn't hold too many shocks, except that I haven't got the miles in my legs yet after an easy winter so it might be a struggle, some of it. Hey ho. I can only fail.

  • Had this pencilled in but they that must be obeyed changed my shifts, and it`s knackered the weekend up, My mate is doing it though. He`s not from round here, and don`t know what a hill is (yet) :D

The climb from Mytholmroyd to Blackstone Edge is the longest continuous hill in England apparently, so he'll know once he's done that. The route probably goes up it, not down.

    Weather looks good for it.
  • Gonna be a very cold weekend, minus 4 here at the mo and dropping :(

+1 more layer then. A bit of cold is nothing to worry about; 70mph rain storms are.

The forecast is showing a clear but cold day for Sunday. That should be ok.
  • Still below zero in the shade at the mo, care on the roads tomorrow :o

Just got back from riding out that way. If its like today it will fantastic. Blue sky, patches of snow at the side of the road. Fantastic. If descending down towards Littleborough past the White House be careful of some large potholes just before the first buildings on the L on the descent. Enjoy the ride !

That was good. It was v v cold - thanks to Evans who were loaning clothing to try, so I borrowed a Goretex windproof top which was very effective. Suffered cold hands / arms / feet at various points throughout but never all at once though. Weatherwise, a bit foggy for the first hour or so but once it cleared the weather was just brilliant, if a bit windy on the way back in. A great way to spend a Sunday morning. Got to say that this was a fantastic ride, and a very challenging route.

I've never been up Gragg Vale before, only down it a few times. It's a good work out doing a 5 mile hill that just keeps going steadily upwards, esp early in the ride. There were plenty more long long climbs - after Baitings Reservoir, up to Saddleworth Moor, up Blackstone Edge from the Halifax side to name a few; long long climbs where you just stick it in a low gear and push forever. I've dropped down Blackstone Edge enough times to know that you can just go with it, so it was a disappointment to find the roadworks with traffic lights near the bottom. Not a problem, just a minor 'oh'.

Like I said, brilliant. Superb route, fantastic weather for it, and good support from Evans and the SIS people who were doling out their energy drink like it was going out of fashion.
  • Hi.

    Dean form Evans here.

Good to hear you enjoyed the ride, it's always nice to know those early starts are worthwhile!

The Ride It series is run in areas around our store locations and Rochdale/Wardle is associated to the Manchester shops. As we have two stores in Manchester, we have two rides, the next one is from Hayfield and goes into the Peaks National Park, returning via Snake Pass. It's also at a slightly warmer time of the year :D

    Hope to see you there.

Hi Dean. The rider pack at the start included a 15% discount voucher, which I thought would be a better idea than the 10% off on the day deal. Closer inspection when I got home shows an expiry date of 31/12/2009; is that a bit of dubious marketing, or just shoddy organisation by Evans PR?

    :)
  • Hi

Ahh, yes, we noticed this halfway through the day. We'd put some new vouchers on a stack from a previous event that should have been destroyed. So nothing dubious or shoddy by PR, just a simple mistake

If you want to PM me your email address I'll get something sorted for you.

    Sorry about that.
