Welcome to the world of biking!.

South wales has alot to offer, Newport side there is Cwm carn, Port talbot way there is the afan valley and head west you get Brechfa, And these are just the local trail centers, ( nice and easy to ride with facilities and so on) there are a myriad of local trails all over though.

I myself live newar Cwm carn, souoth Wales has some great biking all ove for you to try

where is South Wales are you?
    the main trails are:
Cwmcarn (Newport)-probably a bit harsh for a newbie
Afan (port Talbot)-four trails to choose from, would advise penhydd to a newbie
Brechfa (camarthan)-plenty to choose from, something for everyone

there are a few south wales mtb clubs:
    Miggly moos
theres one in Caerphilly that ride from Castle bike shop
for more search on british cycling website

im not supposed to link other forums in here but there are a lot of south wales rides organised on the' mtb wales forum'
    http://www.mtb-wales.com/modules.php?op ... lay&fid=16
if you go into the rides/routes forum section on here and ask someone to show you around a trail or request a group ride, im sure you would get a few relpies.

it certainly wouldnt do any harm, if your unable to go out on bike, go to spin, getting out on the bike is best, but if your pushed for time.
some people really enjoy spin classes, you may be able to drag more people into mountain biking, definately worth giving it a go ide say

whats the riding like up in Abergavenny? thats not far from me, is there much good singletrack?

There's certainly great XC crickhowell way and beyond (there's a ride around Mynnyd Du on one of the websites - mtb-wales?) and there's good singletrack there.
  • i went to book up spin for friday night and its full! typical! i like riding round the sugarloaf but your right crick and beyond is fantastic iv done quite a bit of walking round there! i did bike from pandy to hay on wye over the ridge was a really good day!
  • Just got back from the quantocks that was a mud fest but fun first few rides in a good few months, But made me really appreciate what we have here on our door steps..

Should be out out at afan on penhydd next weekend choosing the nicer weather of course for the day i will head out :p

    Hi

I live in Herefordshire on the Abergavenny road (not on it, but in house near it :D ). Me and a mate go to CwmCarn quite regularly and you are welcome to join us or we can take in more gentler rides if you're new :)

    Send a PM if you're interested. :)
