Does anyone know for definate whether BA are now charging for bike boxes?
I flew BA from Heathrow in June last year and at the time they weren't charging but I've heard they have changed their policy on sporting goods.
Can anyone shed any light?
cheers

Kind of depends on what class you're travelling, where you're going to and what else you're taking. They will take bikes (size willing) as part of your free baggage allowance which in economy is generally one bag at 23kg. If you're over this (either in weight, size or numbers of bags) they will almost certainly charge you.
If you have a reservation, call them up and ask them. If you don't have one, give an agent a call and ask them to hold something and check for you.

Yep, will definitely be in force now - I flew a bike at the end of September and the guys at check-in told me it was coming into force in a matter of weeks from then.Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0

forgot to say, if you haven't made a booking, not all airlines are equal - Virgin for example let you take it in addition to your luggage allowance, rather than as part of it:

I have friends in BA and they'd all said it was happening but no-one had an official say on it.
Looks like it's happened.
