Morning All,
In the past year I have acquired an enigma road bike and a Santa Cruz MTB (lucky me !). Current house insurance via esure has a 500 pound limit per bike unless bikes are a named item (which from past memory may well cost me more than the bikes themselves...)

Am due to renew next month, can anyone recommend and good more "bike friendly" policies? Note that I do not require the bikes to be covered when away from the house.

Thanks

    Try the M&S insurance.
You're allowed £4000 per claim and don't have to disclose details of bikes!

I'm with Halifax and while I have to detail the bikes (over £1,000 IIRC) they didn't increase the premium.

They're not covered "racing" and obviously they have to be looked up when not being ridden but other than that no issues.

I have AXA and £3k per bike is included free, with no need to disclose separate details. Also, no special locks needed - as long as it's locked to something immovable whilst out, even with a crappy £2.50 cable lock, I'm covered. Accidental damage also included new for old. :D
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos
  • legal and general, specified and negotiated policy additions with them: 2 x £1300 bikes adds just over £6 a month to my premium but gives me near fully comp car insurance like cover and no specifications on mega locks etc
  • When you apply for the M&S insurance do you have to state that you have expensive bikes? (sorry if I sound like an idiot but I've never had house ins before)

Cautionary tale: I'm with esure & when I got my new bike I immediately made a note to get it fixed for a grand's worth of cover. And reminded myself how important it was every day when the reminder flashed up.
A few weeks later we were heading away on holiday, "must phone this morning... no time, got to get going, anyone seen the bikelock keys?"
One frantic search later, no keys... well we'll not be leaving the car unattended...
Arrive at bro's house, pull up outside, "nice to see you, nice house, here give us a hand to get these bikes somewhere safe".
    Inside for 5 mins max.
I think you can guess what comes next. Bristolians may well know the implications of bro's house being next to a path out of Blaise Castle.
It's still being processed after months but it looks like they'll pay... the £500 max. For a 1K bike.
Do I feel silly? Yes I do.
