£300 will probably get you a nice shopping bike, hopefully with tyres that don't puncture before the end of the bike leg, and who knows, you might even get the shopping basket thrown in on the front of the handlebars as standard - then it's up to you as to whether or not you can make it work as an aerodynamic aid :D

Seriously, save your money up to AT LEAST three times that figure - even the bargain basement triathlon bikes I've seen at Ribble start at £749. Alternatively, try your local club and see if anyone's got a second hand road bike to sell you for no more than £250 - that'll leave you with £50 for some aerobars. Best of luck :P

Second hand's the way to go - get a Giant OCR/TCR (or something of a similar compact geometry), fit Tri-bars and should see you through the first season or two.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos
  • Is this your first tri? How far do you have to cycle and do you have a bike already? I would definitely go second hand but if this is your first tri, I'd wait and save until you are sure you want to do it.
