Campagnolo downshift problem

My right shifter has been progressively worse at shifting over the last couple of months and now finally it screwed.

It shifts up perfectly but down shifting basically jumps all the gears in one go, at first I thought it might be cable tension but even with the cable disconnected the shifter still jumps all the way down with one press.

Any ideas?

It could be a dirt in the ratchet or springs that engage the ratchet are worn. Try blasting the innards with GT85 / WD40 to flush-out and clean the internals. If that doesn't work, then you'll probably need to have the lever serviced.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

It depends on the model. Lower end e.g. veloce - you need a new shifter. The plastic ratchet is knackered. If you could buy one on its own it should cost about 50p but you can't. Top end e.g. chorus and above, it might be worth repairing. The "campag wear in " b0llocks does not apply across the range.

Well, not really. If it is Powershift repair may be unviable but Ultrashift is worth repairing irrespective of whether it is Veloce or Record. Velotech can do this amongst others.

Shifter was knackered but only a 10s xenon so cheaper to replace than repair

  • My 11-speed Athena went the same way. Replaced under warranty. It looks a lot like there's a design weakness.
