Hi Kids,
Thought I'd share, in an Oprah stylee.
Almost 13 months after getting my bike I finally managed to get up here this morning:
http://www.mapmyride.com/view_route?r=4 ... 0457480674
It's the 8km at an average of 10% in the middle that are the hard work! Some bits are marked 1:8 but I reckon they're steeper. That's a lot for a lardy-arse like me.
Rode through a layer of cloud at around 500m and it was blue sky at the top. It's possible to get all the way to the observatory at the top, but not this time; I was knackered.
Off for a lie down now... If you're out today, enjoy the ride.

Well done Steve
Looks like a great ride (especially once you're in the trees) what sort of temp you got out there just now?

I don't actually mean it took me 13 months to get up it. It just felt like it.
Spider,
Thanks. Weather this morning was around 12 degrees C when I left the house. Up at the top it was misty and probably about 8-10. Really odd though, I kept going in and out of the mist. In the misty sections the temp dropped really noticeably by a few degrees. On the descent it was really cold when I got some speed up. Must get the wife to stand at the top with some newspapers next time....Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0 -
well done!
So have you set the time you want to beat next time now?0 -
Thanks for the reply Steve - last time I was in HK it was hot and humid. (Oct Nov about 10 years ago). 12C is not too bad - but what a climb! Well done

got any pics?
Hi Andy,
No pics at the moment, sorry. I didn't have a camera with me (the extra few grams might have done me in ). However, I did take a field trip up there last week as well and some of the kids had cameras so I'll get a couple up on my Flickr site for you to check out soon. In the meantime, this is quite good:

and this is quite nice:

Matthew, It took me about one hour from bottom to top, although I wasn't planning to get up that far so didn't really pay close attention to the time. Also, at the summit my eyes appeared to have stopped functioning as all the blood was diverted to my legs.

Nice, well done. Now all you have to do is do it again, but quicker!0

Great road and top effort - I like Hong Kong - the descent must have been fun too.My cycling blog: http://girodilento.com/0

Yeah, 12 is nice. I ride all year and in the summer, even at 6 in the morning it's really baking hot and humid. I reckeon I've got until the end of March before the heat starts to kick in again...
Thanks Scottie,
Yes, the descent was much more pleasant, though a touch cold. It took about 15 minutes - I descend like an old woman. The road surface is prettry poor though, and the carbon forks I've got, together with cantilever brakes tend to make me very nervous.....Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0 -
I want a go.
Looks great, well done mate!
Wish there was something like that in the UK!0 -

Thanks, Nap. I suppose you'll have to make do with toiling up and down Winnat's Pass a couple of times...
I'm on the move this year; I'll miss HK.......Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0 -
