i come to get the bike out of the shed this afternoon do my pre ride checks and notice my front brake is dead,, i mean the lever is on the bar it wasn't like this a few weeks ago when i last rode it, (before christmas)
brakes are avid jucy 5
i know it's been bloody cold over the last month especially the last few weeks it got as low as minus 13 round here,, would the cold effect the brakes,,,
i know you are advised to bleed them at least every 12 months, and mine have not been bled in over 2 years  .. but i noticed even my spesh demo (avid elixer) has done the same the lever is hitting the bar and thats only 4 month old..
it only the avids that seem to have suffered my formulas are fine and both sets of maguras on my brothers bikes are fine,,,
anyone any ideas as to why this would happen,, would it be the cold,,
i know brake fluid is hydroscopic and draws moisture from the air or could it be the dampness that caused this....
supersonic were are you.. or nic...
had to forefit todays ride to bleed the brakes..
anyone else found this with their avid brakes...

The cold can cause the fluid to contract, but pumping the brake lever will pump more out of the reservoir.
But two year old fluid... ;-)0 -
The low temperature could also cause the joints, threads and seals to contract causing a leak or letting air in. Nip everything up and purge and pressure up again and it should be ok0

should do but having torrets and shivering hands made it a whole lot harder...
i missed the meet time, needed to be there by 100pm get bike out shed at 1210 find dodgy brake get ready to bleed by 1215 took best part of 25 mins,
it takes 30 mins to drive to meeting point also had to get changed pack bag so thats another 10 mins (i'm a tart) so the guys would of been well gone..
i opted to forefit and swear some more at my stupid bike.. well brake.
and ss 2 years i know sorry, but if it aint broke don't fix it,, well today it did brake so i had to fix it.. :x :shock:www.bearbackbiking.com
