I know most of us are old farts but isn't 7mm just under 1/4 inch in real money!!!!!!!!
I might not know much but that seems a bit wierd
70mm might be better but I will bow to your superior knowledge0 -
just tried to get my cleats so ball of my big toe is 7mm from centre of pedal axle .
Question how do i drill and tap my shoes or shall i use self tappers mind you aradilte is quite good or no more nails!?0 -
TRY CENTRE BALL OF FOOT not toe.
now it makes sense
I can put my taps and dies away phew0 -
I get a problem with my knees so when i saw post on fitting/cleat position i was eager to have a look but once i got my shoes out and checked mine i thought i was totally wrong then got tape out and wasnt sure if you meant 70mm to ball of toe or 7mm to centre of something else easy mistake to make when typing.I was asking for clarification if it upset you so much i am sorry.would like me to do penance?or just wear a hairshirt.0

Ok, tomsdad, I thought you were being smart. As you weren't, I'll apologise for being smart, back!
Cyclefit.com has a lot of info on it and Steve Hogg is well thought of in his field of expertise.
He'll also enter into converation with you, via emails, without sending a bill, too!Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -
accepted.some of us arn't that knowledgable and consequently we tend to look at the posts to pick up tips and to try and learn.sometimes we have to query and ask what to you may be stupid questions. I try to do it with a bit of levity.I am sorry if you took offence.wont question again!0

Kentrider wrote:I agree that you have to trust the fitter-all they do is a course run by Specialised to get the tick in the box to do the tests-and for at least part of the test I felt he was reading from a manual-which I didn't mind too much being new to the game myself-but I'd imagine if I had some knowledge already would have made me wonder if I was getting value for money.
I have gone through the course and the reason it works like a manual is the fitters are tought to follow the steps set by Andy Pruitt. His steps are the guide for a lot of the fitters out there even if they say they are different from his system. The instructors at Specialized are not all just BG fitters most all have other backgrounds. About it being worth the money look at some of the articles from Saxo Bank and Astana riders about their fit sessions. I myself am BG Fitter and my co-worker is a certified master BG Fitter one of the first 12 in the U.S.0 -
I need a new Toupe saddle after the latest spill and was thinking of nipping to the Specialized Concept store in Birmingham.
Anyone know if you can turn up and have a go on their 'assometer' to get the right width checked out?0 -
I would have thought you'd be fine .... I like the Birmingham Specialized store - my in-laws only live 10 minutes away - so I always find an excuse to drop in when we are in the neighbourhood. My cycling blog: http://girodilento.com/0

Right,
I am booked in with Adrian Timmis at Cadence Sports on Tuesday...
I'll let you know how I get on.0 -
Just answering my own question from 8th Feb - I did indeed nip into the Brum Specialized concept store and got a quick saddle fitting, took all of 90 seconds!
As a result I have dropped rom a 143 to a 130mm Toupe. Cannot report on improved comfort yet, Cycle Surgery and Cycle Store have both cocked up an order for the 2010 model so new one due before the weekend.0 -
I've got the BG Fit this week to, so i'll post to let you know what its like/if its worthwhile.0

How did it go?
Anyone used either Specialized Concept Store in Bristol or Ruislip for the BG Fit? Opinions? There's no such thing as too old.0 -
Got my fit tomorrow at Cadence...
Hopefully the foot beds will live up to the hype...0 -
Hype? Was that me? I'm going to feel responsible if you have a bad experience.
Those footbeds are good though 8)0 -
Well.
What can I say
Wow.
Wish I'd had this done when I first started riding!
Adrian Timmis - the guy who does it clearly knows his stuff (as you walk in there's pictures of him riding in the TdF and all sorts of professional qualifications. He also coaches some top riders) but he's a very nice chap too.
The footbeds are fab, the bike fit just as good, turns out one leg is 1cm shorter than the other so had shims put in and I am now so comfy on the bike! My knee twinges and pain are no more.
At the end of the session we took the footbeds out to compare and it was a real eye opener, to think how bobbins it felt before!
Highly recommended!
