    As rake said

If you've never tried any of the three get a test / feel of the gears if poss - don't want to be shelling out in excess of 1k on something you can't use / don't like.
Whatever suits you ergonomically and how you prefer to shift gears is the call really.
Try not to be drawn on the 'image' factor!!

Comfort is a big issue as these are quite different to use.

Check the parts prices, as if you are a high mileage rider then replacement chains and cassettes can get expensive! ALso, there's fewer options for 11 speed chains...

Any of these also requires maintenance to work their best. If you aren't mechanically minded, you will need a good LBS. Check with them to see what they are happiest working with too, and for which they keep parts!

I had the same dilemma and ended up with 2010 Force which seemed virtually the same as Red but a lot cheaper and I was drawn by the 'image factor'!
I didn't go for Campag because I wanted the interchangability with Shimano because already have Shimano wheels/ cassettes plus don't like the idea of Campag chains and £100 chain tools. I like the reusable links of SRAM and I'd use KMC instead of Shimano.
I tried all the systems at the bike show and was a bit disapointed by the ergonomy of the Shimano. Underneth the hoods there are some really sharp edges. Campag wins for comfort I have to say.

Surely everyone knows by now that Shimano is leagues ahead......

    Of what?

I have Campag and SRAM and find Campag more comfy, but prefer the shape of SRAM brake levers. If you haven't tried all three makes, its best to try each one. Like others have said, no point in spending £1300+ only to find you don't like the make...
Also why do you want Super Record/Red/Dura Ace? Why not go for Chorus/Force/Ultegra? Save a chunk of money, add about 150g, and not notice a difference in use?

its like saying tea or coffee. no horror stories with any. be aware campag only make their record line of hub now i think. the others are cheap imports i have read which can fail early. get record hubs.

Buy Chorus and put the huge saving toward a wheel upgrade.

No brainer.... and the more experienced, who have witnessed the countless previous threads, should have worked it out by now....

    SRAM

    You know it makes sense.

  • My 2p's worth is, I've just gone from Shimano (ridden Tiagra & Ultegra).

When you get to Ultegra, the kit shifts well, brakes well and is decent quality kit.

But in IMHO, Sram shifts much more positively and the double tap thing took virtually no time at all to get used to. On the flip side, I don't think it feels as well made as Shimano, but even with this in mind, I don't think I'd go back to Shimano.

Has to be Campag - didn't you know that koolstop campag pads are twice as thick as the shimano ones ?

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.
