If you look on sites such as Coffee Geek and Home Barista you'll find lots of good advice and tips. One thing that's suggested quite often is that you should find where the "true zero" on your Rocky is. That's done by setting it running with the hopper empty and adjusting the setting finer and finer until you hear the burrs contacting each other. You need to do this very carefully and back it off as soon as you make contact. Personally, I'm not so convinced that knowing your true zero is so important. Just try to home in on a setting that gives you the mythical 25 second shot :-)
I have my Silvia set on a time switch so it's warmed up and ready to go when I get up in the morning and then again when I get home from work. It'll sit on happily all day and takes about 60w on average when idling like this. Just be sure to top up the boiler if you've been steaming milk (by drawing water to the group head (top switch)) so that it won't run dry!
