Bike repair stands

Now is it just me, or are bike repair stands obscenely expensive for what they are? Don't get me wrong, I'm one to spend money rather freely, I just like to get something decent to show for it!
Most seem to be around the £180-£300 mark, those that fall below that seem to be of a similar structure/design to my guitar stand, which cost me £20. Why the high cost? anyone in the industry?
Anyone know of any that provide good value for money?
or have their own DIY repair stand design they'd like to share?
cheers!

i've spent a summer using the decathlon one out in france and i'd say for the price, very good. Now I've realised there's a decathlon near nottingham I may just have to nip up and get one...Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0

Try http://www.cyclearound.co.uk/product/velomann_bike_planet_stand/
I work in this shop and use this stand. Haven't yet had a major problem with it, and use it on all kinds of bikes....jedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.0 -
Think twice about the decathlon one...
The bike rests on the BB.. If you have lower routed cables this can cause problems setting the gears up as the bike tends to sit on the cables causing drag that's not normally there...0 -
I got a park tools like bigbeng_08, it is superb. Beefier than you would think from the pictures (well I thought so). Here for 76.50:
