Looking to spend £500 on a set of wheels for racing this season. Was looking at the dura ace 7850 c24 as my mate swears by them. Looking for a stiff light wheel if this is possible withought going in to zipp territory.

Any suggestions.???? I currently use mavic ksyrium helium Es wheels at the moment.

cheers.

  • Derek, call The Smiths at wheel.

You can pick up some bargains at (eg) Chain Reaction/Merlin at the moment though so have a look what you can get on discount, too.

    Buy round ones.

Oh, and some of those squishy black-ish rubber things will help too.

do what everyone else does - ask for loads of opinions and then just ignore them and buy the stuff you originally wanted to anyway.....

What people are trying to say is talk to a wheel builder. I can recommend Steve at Roadace who is an experienced racer as well as builder. You may want to try locally, ask your club mates.
I would go alu not carbon, good spokes like sapim or dt.
Shimano hubs are cup and cones, easy to service.

A pair of IRD Aero/CX Rays/PMP hubs would be a good choice

But is he as good as Derek?
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Want to go carbon / tubular ?
P-X 50mm carbon rimmed wheels are around that price I think.
Light and more aero that what you currently have. Braking not the best tho' (but that goes for all carbon rimmed wheels to a greater or lesser extent)
