Hi all hope you can help me?
I am trying to remove an old Raceface evolve Xc chainset. I have removed the crank bolt but the diameter of my ISIS extractor is too small to screw into the chainset. Is it possible to bet extractors of a much larger diameter that will fit or should I consider a Race face x type self extractor?

they are the same sized thread.

    do you have pics?

or what year is the crank/bike?

Well thats what I thought, but the diameter is a good 25% larger than normal.
I would guess its a mid 2000's version.
I have the 2008 model and that comes of fine using a normal ISIS extractor.

some one must have playing as all crank extraction threads are the same.

even the cranks with self extracting bolts use the same thread.

    pics would be good.

    Just to check

It isn't the X-type one is it, with external BB bearings?

then it is self extracting put it all back together.

but the extractor thread is sill ISIS (and all other crank arm thread) standard.

    from the manual
    REMOVAL (IF NECESSARY):
    a) Remove M15 crank bolt from RH crank arm / spindle with 8mm hex key. (Turn bolt counter-clockwise to remove)
    b) Use standard ISIS compatible crank puller with M22x1 thread (Park Tool CWP-6) to remove RH crank from spindle.
    c) Slide spindle / LH crank assembly through BB cups and remove. Tap lightly with mallet if necessary to force spindle out through plastic races.
    d) Unthread BB cups from frame with external BB Cup Spline Tool (Park Tool BBT-9) (R = clockwise to remove / L = counter-clockwise to remove).

Like I said the diameter of the threaded hole in the chainset is much larger than a standard extractor width

then some one has modified it.

there are not any larger extractors.

Guess you aren't re-using the cranks then?

  • Early T.A. use 23mm, early stronglight use 23.5, hard to get an extractor now but they can be made. Most cranks are 22mm but not all. lemurs

fo that to work the crank must have been repaired and had the threads re cut.
