Bottom bracket life?

Hi All
My Ultegra BB has only done 2.5k miles and is already 'clicking' and feels like it has too much resistance in it - i.e. it doesn't spin easily without the chain on and comes to a stop relatively quickly.
2 questions:
- How many miles of normal use do you get out of a BB?
- What should I change it for?

ive had my ultegra bb on the bike about 6 years aprox 25k miles,still going strong.going downhill slowly0
