Hi, I'm relatively new to road cycling, and have decided to buy a new road bike for this season. I spent last year cycling on a £200 'Cross Peloton' which did the job, however i feel it's time for a new one! :D

Any bikes around (or preferably under!) £800 which particuarly stand out?

or

should i search around for a second hand bike of better quality but of the same price? :D

Thanks!

Just upgraded to a Cervelo but was riding a Merida Road Ride 903 and was very impressed as it was my first road bike.

Had a Tiagra triple chainset and R500 shimano wheels. Got it from my LBS for about £800.......worth a look?

Can't go wrong. Although, Allez Sport will do you just as well for a starter bike. I had mine for 4/5 years before recently upgrading. Cracking bike, nothing fancy, but well built and solid.

You might want to upgrade wheels in time, but that's about all.

Actually, having just checked the specs on the Sport, they've dropped back to Sora (mine came with a 105/tiagra mix).

    Good luck!

The Boardman Comp has to get a look in and is well within your price range. 8)

Yep, good call - and depending on your size there's some good deals on Focus bikes on wiggle at the mo as well.

Newly released Cannondale CAAD8 might be worth a look. Or even better, a CAAD9 if you can find one for under £800. Probably the best aluminium bike on the market. In my humble opinion of course! Seriously though, only a few years ago the CAAD9 was a grand tour and stage winning bike and it is absolutely worth upgrades in the future.

I've seen Cannondale CAAD9s built up with full dura ace and two grand ZIPP carbon wheelsets and you really can't say that about any other sub £1000 aluminium bike that I can think of. Sod carbon!

Yes someone was tellig me about the CAAD9s, defiantly a possibility :)

Is it not worth looking for a carbon frame then on my budget?

I think you'd have to be closer to a K to get a carbon framed bike new - unless you got the frame and built one yourself...

Yeah, i'm not really to bothered about carbon, iv'e just heard alot of good things about it.

and well i thought of buying the frame and starting from scratch but its just too time consuming! And i wouldnt be able to stop myself splashing out on parts... :D

I recently tried both the Cannondales and went for the CAAD8 in the end (£800), great bike and it actually suited my needs more than the CAAD9 - if you were looking at these I would find a shop with both to do a side by side comparison, one is more aggressive than the other (CAAD9) but I would highly recommend both - went for the first ride today, first decent road bike and very fast! :P

    thanks! :D

Well i love pre-owned, you probably know what size so you're much better off IMO.

My Kuota Ksano cost under 800 quid inc delivery last Sept.....I think.

Anyway every part on it was brand new including Ultegra SL groupset, the frame had slight laquer rub but in no way causes any problems other than aesthetically.

Really don't think you could come close buying new.............
