Head tube dent

I picked up and old 1989 Peugeot yesterday, in great condition bar a vertical dent in the front of the head tube about 2inches long, with the paint cracked around it; annoyed that I didn’t spot it when I checked it over, but hey, it cost peanuts.

Now I know this is a question that may result in me being hammered, but I have to ask as I do not know (as I haven't ever had a metal frame with dents in it) but is this a potential safety issue or should it hold fine, it rides true and surprisingly well.

Cheers for any advice in advance.

Assuming this is a steel frame, if it is just a dent in the head tube it should be OK.
If the dented headtube is a sign that it's been in a head-on collision with something, I'd check it over more carefully, especially the fork/steerer (take it out of the frame) and where the top tube and down tube meet the head tube.
