I need to replace the rear shock on my orange patriot. (rockshox delux spring)

Do I just undo the 2 bolts and lift it out, or do I need to use a spring compressor, will it all spring out or will it just come ou nice and easy?

Thanks

the shock comes out with the spring attached and in place unless the shock has fallen to pieces.

If I undo the bolts will it not spring out and smack me in the head? Like a car spring would?

  • no, but you do need a spring compressor to remove them.
  • My i2i is 190mm,
so when fully extended, is my shock 190mm or is it under compresion in the frame.

Sorry i worded the first question badly

No its not under compression in the frame, but in the shock assembly.

There is nothing in the frame for it to compress against, the rear triangle does not have any stop.

Not familiar with the RS but does it not also have a lockring that compresses the spring? (a bit of preload) Like Fox Van and DHX?

You would unscrew that and the spring becomes loose.

  • Ok thanks, Thats what i wanted to know.
I didnt want to undo the bolts on the frame and have the whole assembly go pinging accross the garage. :D
