CERVELO S3.....Shimano Di2

Finally narrowed down my choice of frame down to the Cervelo S3 with a Shimano di2 groupset......next problem is the 2010 model does not allow for di2 cabling to be routed internally. The solution would be to route it externally on the down tube or to drill the frame which could / would affect the warranty
OR
I have been offered the s3 2009 Tour de France edition as an alternative, this ALLOWS the cable problem to be solved with internal cable routing.
Both 2009 and 2010 frame the same price..............
Should I go bang upto date with newer frame and suffer the cable issue or go for the older frame with no cable issues??

I'm not that familiar with Cervelo frames but would hazard a guess that you won't find a whole lot of difference, if any, other than paint and cable routing, in the two bikes. I doubt a 2010 will "perform" or do anything better or be any more up to date than a 2009.
Note I said HAZARD A GUESS.0 -
Not worth asking, as there is no right answer. Something has to give to get what you want.
Only you can be happy to make the call. 2009 seems like the no brainer. Or drop the DA di2.0 -
Why is it sometimes that what appears to be the most difficult of questions are answered with simple logic?
Is there a difference in price ....no
Will there be a difference in performance....no
Will it look better with cables internally.....yes
Do I like the yellow paint job....yes.....especially with matching bar tape.
What a dummy....thanks for the simple pointer....my brain must have frozen over with debating so many other options.

Just cos its this year doesn't make it better for you.
You just needed a nudge as a comfort blanket.
Go for it. And as an aside, try to hammer out a price drop on the "old" frame. If they wont budge, that says something about the value!0 -
their is a CERVELO S3 equipped with Di2 Mavic ultimates all singing all dancing setup on ebay its out of this world have a search on the bay youll see it in all its glory.0

Just done a bit of research on the Cervelo forum and the 09 S3 has thicker chainstays in comparison to the 09 TDF version which in turn limits the wheels options to mainly Zipp.
Therefore with same / similar stays as the 2010, and just some internal restructuring of the frame their is little differnece other than the colour.....and possibly a re-negotiated price based on the fact it is 2009 (although only mid July release)
Got to admit I seen one (albeit R3SL) in my LBS today and it looked mint on the stand
Yellow 2009 S3 TdF it is........mind made up!!!
Thanks for the nudge Guys!!0 -

You're not saying it's a bad frame is it? Or would the geometry not suit you?
Nothing wrong with an S3 from where i'm sitting. Good enough for a certain Thor Hushovd and Heinrich Haussler.
I mean what next: The S3 caused Haussler to lose Milan-San Remo?0 -
I love the black / yellow.
A lot.0 -
There is no difference between the 09 and 10 models of Cervelo bikes - only the paint jobs.
But as you seem to have found out, there must be a difference between the TDF edition of the S3 and the regular S3. Given the choice, I would have gone with the TDF edition myself as I like the paint job.0 -

Cervelo done a hatchet job on their 09 'special' S3s imo, they could have made a much better job with the TdF model. Don't get me started on the Giro one. U G L Y.
FWIW for my money the standard black/silver would be ideal. The cable routing would be sorted too somehow ...0
