Hello, I used to be a keen mountain biker but due to my circumstances had to leave the sport behind. Now blessed with lots of free time I hope to return to the sport, unfortunately I am completely out of touch with the new bikes. I bought a couple of magazines hoping they would fill me in a bit better but I am still non the wiser.

After a few hours of trawling the internet I found the Boardman FS Pro bike which seems to have gotten great reviews. I quite fancy a full susser as I have never owned one, ideally I'd like to spend no more than £1300. I will most likely be riding XC/Trails, as I live in yorkshire the bike will be going up quite a few hills. I'm not on the heavy side of things by any means but i am 6ft2.

A few questions:

1. Could anyone point me in the right direction of a good bike around that price range, or if any, give me some feedback on the Boardman FS bike?

2. What difference will I notice if a bike has race parts, are they just lighter?

3. What size frame am I likely to need? I know the only real way is sitting on one but If someone could give me a general idea that would be great.

Thanks for any help.

  • 1)The Boardman is a good starting point, and certainly has an excellent spec for the money.

    2) Race parts are lighter, the trick is to balancing the needs of strenth with lightness. Not really any issues with the parts on the Boardman. Its generally good relaible stuff.

    3) At 6ft 2 you will almost certainly need the large.

Not withstanding this advice,I cannot strees how imortant t is that you find one in the right size and get a test ride first.

  • Thanks so much for your reply, I don't suppose you could tell me what difference I would notice between the 3 different FS options; Comp, Team and Pro? I realise they have different components and weight but as the component names are french to me I wonder whether to spend the extra money on the Pro option.

    Thanks once again.
