Couple of questions.

Seeing the necessary evil in a turbo trainer I have bought one, and been using it a while though with the snow going and wanting to go out on the roads again more, ive just been uping the effort on the turbo trainer somewhat, and at high intensity im getting a bit of tyre slip especially where i push down on the pedals. how can this be remedied, could i adjust the trainer in another way i might not have tried. ive tried making sure the resistance unit touching the wheel with as much pressure as should be needed without over doing it.
I have a tacx satori blue. So far am incredibly impressed with the machine, and it is very quiet compared to what people say. ive had to put up with rowing machine in the living room!

leading me to the point, if i were to get a new set of wheels and use one set as trainers with one of the tacx trainer tyres on so its easier than stripping a wheel everytime i want to use the turbo and the other as summer ones. which should i look at for my boardman comp. I quite like the look of ritchey ones, as theyd match the bike, ive been pleased with the ones supplied with my boardman, and theyre quite cheap. Budget is at the very very max 500quid. Id like a pair that could do a future bike justice too.

Sorry for being vague ish on hte last one only just started to think about it!

cheers, matt.

  • What I did was got a second hand back wheel off ebay (good condition, but braking surface worn so it was cheap), bought a new cassette (to match the shimano 10-speed already on my Boardman Team Carbon), and put it all together with a Continental turbo trainer tyre - very easy to just swap the back wheel when going on the turbo...

There no point in also having a front wheel for the turbo (unless you just fancy having a spare!), and I reckon even an old wheel is ok - you're not going to be doing any braking, freewheeling, going over potholes, etc.

I've had a bit a slip too on the turbo (Tacx Swing), and I think it was because the tyre pressure had dropped a bit - pumped it to 100 and it seems fine now.
  • yeah, my first thought was just get a cheap wheel for the back and leave it with the tacx skewer and tyre. I was just thinking about getting a better set of wheels just as a replacement as im starting to do alot more miles and sportives and racing etc. Especially at uni.

ill see how things play out with the bank balance!
