"Patrick Vieira took an amazing 500 per cent pay cut to join Manchester City", now maths was never my strongest subject at skool but Im sure that a 100% pay cut means he gets nothing? Or does he have to pay City to let him play? Im just so confused.

Take his City wage and multiply it by 500%. That's what he was on at Inter.Ben

He now has to pay Man City 4 x what Inter used to pay him !
Confused is I believe the right response when you contemplate the finances of the Premiership.

It's the sports section of the mirror.
I'm not being judgemental, but they're probably not that great at simple percentages."I hold it true, what'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost;
Than never to have loved at all."

That'd be an 80% pay cut then.
Spiny_Norman is right.

Take his City wage. Multiply that by 5 and then add that result to the original amount. That's what he was earning at Inter.
£80,000 + (£80,000 x 5)
They expressed it incorrectly, but Vieira has taken a pay cut. Why would you take a pay cut to move from Inter Milan to Manchester City?Ben

Maybe he is being lined up for coaching duties or or some other future managerial position.
Maybe he was out of contract at the end of the season and knew he was not getting another on comparable terms.

He was not getting too many games in Italy. Wants to be playing to try and get in France world cup squad in the summer.
I think it was Mancini who took him to Inter as well so obviously he still thinks he can play a role.
And as said above, with money no object, it is worth taking a punt on someone who has won his fair share of trophies and can pass on his experiences to a club who has won bugger all.Cannondale Super Six Hi Mod Sram Red0
