Hey, you've got spoiler in the thread title, but there doesn't appear to be any race news or video.
What gives?0 -
Or "spoiler" even.
But I agree, publishing results on here can spoil people's enjoyment of watching a video of the race. Subjects containing recent race results should be neutral and contain the *SPOILER* warning.0 -

Can we also avoid lambasting people who don't know or forget about this rule?Scottish and British...and a bit French0
-
No - lambasting is the only way these people will learn.
If the BBC can manage an "and if you don't want to know the score, look away now" then I think forumites should be able to refrain from a "Cav romps home" in July...Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0 -

True, but if you really don't want to know just stay away from the Pro Race section of cycling forums.
This subject reminds me about a blog post I wrote for my old employer:

so boooooorriiinnnnnnnnng and childish, if you dont want to know results, don't log in.0
-
No it's not. It's quite simple to not put something leading in the title. It's not like that stops a decent thread and it means people wo want to avoid results are not excluded from a whole section because of potentially 1 thread.0

Sometimes the BBC make a pigs ear of it though on Sunday night before MOTD2 the BBC news reader said if you dont want to know the results look away now and proceeded to read out the resultsGasping - but somehow still alive !0 -

Agree with that as well if i find out who wins say on a big mountain stage it makes no odds ill watch anyway. I think folks complain about this really just to give them something to complain about.Gasping - but somehow still alive !0 -

That doesn't work for me. I don't find highlights half as entertaining and exciting if I already know the result. For example, there's no thrill in the chase if I already know the break got caught 5km from the finish.
These days, however, it's very hard to avoid knowing the results before I see the TV highlights programme. Even if I avoid this forum, someone will mention it on Twitter, or another forum, or I'll hear the result on the radio, etc. etc.
It's even more difficult with something like TDU, where the result is known by the time I get up in the morning, but the TV highlights aren't on until 5:30pm.
That said, it's trivial to use a neutral thread title, like "TDU stage 1 results"; it doesn't trouble those who know or don't mind knowing the result, and shields those who don't want to know it, but still want to read other forum threads.
To refuse to play the spoiler game is just selfish.0 -
I agree - it's a nice convention to use spoiler in the title and shows a bit of consideration for others.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -

I couple of weeks ago they said, if you don't want to know the score, you know what to do, so Iooked away, and they read it out. I obviously dodn't know what to do.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

So after everyone getting on peoples backs about using the word 'SPOILER', the first thing you see on the front page of the website today is the result of today's stage at the TDU...
Yes i know its coz its in Oz, but also kinda funny and ironic i thought...0 -
That's why I come directly to the forums, and don't look at the front page.0

Man some dude are are anal. Scenario - it's July 3rd 2010 and you see the following threads in the "pro race" section of the forum :
"TdF - Prologue" vs "TdF - Prologue *Spoiler*"
Chicks' boobs? Latest must buy widget from Evans? Will it spoil your night if you see the results? Do you want a really super official national lottery type program with drum rolls and a celebrity presenter? Grow up and get over the fact that you weren't breast fed.
I just never understood this spoiler concept. What does it spoil exactly?
Go to friggin Cyclingnews first if you want to see results then here second to discuss them - it's elementary. Stay away from a thread on Pro Scene if you don't want to see people discuss results. When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
You tell him Frans :shock:0

I think this thread proves that time travel will never exist.
There would always be some tw@t who would post the results 5 mintues before the end.
Sorry to mention myself as a Tw@t but that sort of thing would make me laugh so much that I would wee myself very slightly!
I am such a bad man...

Maybe if posters would go a bit easier on someone who forgets or doesnt know about this then others wouldnt have a view on, it seems to me the is fair degreee of vitriol flung about even when someone doesnt know about it. Me personally i take the view if i dont want to know a result i dont click on a thread with the race in the title or avoid the forum its not rocket science.Gasping - but somehow still alive !0 -

Where's the vitriol? It was politely pointed out that the construction of the thread title might give the game away, and the OP posted back that people were being anal. Hardly vitriolic.0 -

I wasnt really refering to this thread as such it just seems to me that a lot of posters jump on this spoiler bandwagon and get quite nasty at times especially to new forum members who maybe dont know about this spolier nonsense.Gasping - but somehow still alive !0 -
