wider rims?

Trying to narrow down the choice for all round racing / training / sportive wheels that will also survive cobbles now and then (belgian sportives).

The wider HED c2 rims and the american classic hurricane may well fit the bill - anyone any experience of these? Are the benefits real or imagined?
