Im looking for a new wheel set for my Giant anthem x1. I want a nice light set of wheels as im doing a lot of enduros this year but I also get a bit carried away as the bike desends so well and often give it a bloody good hammering so a weak set of wheels will be of no use.

Ive been looking at the pro 3's on stans ztr 355 rims, the wheel are amazing value and are just in my price range. Do you think these wheels would hold up to a bit of abuse or do you think i should be looking else where? Im currently running dt 370's on mavic xc 717's.

Any feedback appreciated :D

    355s will be tougher than the 717s.

    If I was looking for a wheelset of that ilk it's definitely where my money would go. Maybe worth checking if Hope are going to update their Hoops to the new Crest rims, they're slightly lighter.

    Sounds good in principle, but how heavy are you and what width tyres do you want to run.

    Im 11.5 stone whatever that is in KG so not exactly a fat knacker. I change between 2.1 panaracer xc pros and 2.0 race kings. I havent heard of these crest rims, i do a search on them now :D

    Stan's have just revamped their rims:

    ZTR Race = ZTR Podium MMX
    Olympic = Alpine
    355 = Crest

    They're all very similar to their predecessors, but slightly lighter and stiffer, the Alpine has a wider profile too. New Crest's are meant to be <340g, so about 20g per rim lighter.

    Ah sweet, cheers for the info, ill try and find out if the hoops are going to start using the crests then :) Im guessing these wheels will take a bit of a beating as ive been searching around and aint found anyone saying they are mega weak or out :D
  • the 355 is a xc rim, for enduro you'd be better off with the fatter dimensions of either the arch or flow.

    I took enduro to mean marathon XC in this context.

    Still, the arch will be better suited to any type of wheel-set that will take a heavier beating.

    If you go to to the notubes website it will give you a cross section of each type of rim. If you do this, you will realize that for about 25 more grams, the Arch rim has another level of reinforcement, while the flow doesn't to save weight.

  • I didn't realise the Arch and 355 were the same dimensions! But I did know there was a reason I'd be looking at the Arch more than the 355 for any type of hardcore trail riding.

    Whatever wheels you get, I think they make awesome rims and you can't go wrong with tubeless, had mine converted for 1 yr no punctures. I need to re-do the sealing process to ensure I have some sealant in liquid form.

    didn't you mean 355?

    The flows are the daddy of strength in the stans range
