Computer problem (Windows)

Hi all, hope someone can help - neice's laptop has problem - when trying to check Windows Update she gets a message along the lines of "Unable to check for Updates" and an (error?) message "8000FFFF". I'm stumped, so any tech guys out there with an idea as to how to resolve this/where to find help, please let me know. Ta very much. :oops:
