Can anyone tell me the differences between 2 frames in the 2010 Colnago range please? The CLX2.0 vs the CX1. The CX1 is more expensive, and I understand a little lighter. But what sort of weight differences (56cm)? Has anyone here compared the rides? If you were blindfolded could you tell any differences? Are the forks the same? Is one stiffer than the other?
Informed opinion is welcome and appreciated :O)
I know that Cyclingplus contained a review of the CLX2.0 last month. But it did not answer any of my questions (above).

Isn't the CX1 made in Italy and the CLX2 made in the far east?
  • Nah, it's only the EPS in the current carbon range thats still made in Italy.

    Both are monocoque frames

CX1 is supposed to be super stiff (the stiffest in the Colnago range)
CLX2 is a new version of what used to be the entry level carbon frame. There is a new ACE model lower down the range now.

A lot of people liked the old CLX, apart from some seatpost issues, which I assume are now sorted.

There's a good, detailed review of the CLX 2.0 on here:

    http://www.colnago.cc/

He even talks about the CLX vs CX-1 which makes interesting reading....

    I love my CLX "1.0"

I think the CLX2.0 has a more upright sportive style geometry. I just compared the head tube length to that of my Specialized Allez and the CLX2.0 has a longer head tube (that's about the limit of my understanding of geometries). Personally I think they look like a great bike - the colnago.cc is an interesting review too. I read some very good reviews of the first one too. If I was going to buy one - I'd probably buy it from Merlin as their build seems to be better than the Colnago complete bike one (e.g. Merlin spec it with full Ultegra 6700 including wheels for about the same price of a lower spec full build from Colnago). I quite fancy the idea of a CLX2.0 in the Red/white colour scheme with 2010 SRAM Force.... for the lighter weight and because I think it's just an interesting combination - but I'm not in the market for now. It could end up on my shortlist later in the year though.

I suspect that the CX1 will me more suited to racing and will feel livelier than the CLX as the CLX was designed to address the growing sportive market. I recently bought a CLX version 1 and think it is a great piece of kit. It's extremely smooth and really does a very good job of dampening road buzz in the same way that my C50 did. However, it does not accelerate anywhere near as well or feel as rigid as my Giant TCR Advanced and feels muted in comparison.

Having said all of that the CLX is still perfectly suitable for racing on as the Landbouwkredit team demonstrated for a couple of seasons and I'm sure that the CLX 2.0 is even better. You probably can't go wrong with either but I would take into account what kind of ride quality you prefer and how lively you want the bike to be.
