I've got £800 pounds to spend and don't really know what to look at.

What would you be tempted by?

Well that exact figure was my budget also, and I parted with £799.99 only yesterday (havent actually picked the bike up yet though)

Really depends upon what you want it for (obviously) I was looking for something for the odd Tri and some longer distance rides

I opted for the Cannondale CAAD 8

I spent about 3 months researching, changing my mind about a dozen times, and trying about 6 bikes out, and this really did tick most of my boxes

Its right for me, but depends what you want it for. :P

  • Get one of these if they have your size.

Picked one up last week and its excellent. The finish of the frame is about 100% better that the Planet X SL carbon.

Pre-owned, you could get quite a beauty for that cash especially if you know what to look for and you get one which has hardly been used 8)
  • In the September edition of CP they reviewed four bikes at around the £800 mark:

    Cube Aerial - £749 marked at 7/0

    Corratec Dolomiti - £ 899.95 - 8/10

    Battaglin Stealth - £879 - 9/10

    Felt Z80 - £850 - 8/10

Depends if you put your faith in these reviews or not and you would need to try a few out.

I go along wth the advice from Stefano and have a look at the 2nd hand market...you could get a great bike for that money and ebay has plenty of bikes going that have been little used by their owners!

    Good luck

Agree with Stefano - forget buying new in my opinion. For £800, you may get a second hand bike that might be in great condition but retailed at £1500+

    eg.
    Trek Madone
    Specialized Roubaix/Tarmac
    Wilier Mortirolo

+ many others have been seen selling for this sort of money.
