First point, fair enough. I thought it was McD's! Secondly, have you got a patio heater? We're not due any sunshine until next year.

We use a local Toby, about once a week.
We use it as a focul point for a meeting with some friends.
The food is very well cooked and the menu pricing keeps it within the reach of all.
Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!
  • I didn't know Tobys still existed! not seen one in years.

For value they are Ok but I find that the veg is usually cooked beyond taste, the service can be a little erratic. I choose to avoid them now.

Its is amazing some of these places can provide lunch for those prices.

Used to avoid, my now with the kids, it means you can go for a sunday walk, treat one of the grandparents and not empty the bank account!
  • We prefer the 'sizzler' at Yate - its the brimsham park. A large ultimate combo is 8oz steak, chicken breast, 2 skewers of king prawns, fries, onino rings etc fo £8.79..... wot a bargain.......!

unfortunately, i find this to be the problem! dry turkey and leather beef.....
....although to be fair this is a challenge for more expensive carveries too....

It's alright if you are hungry & can't be arsed to cook. Not memorable or particulary enjoyable food though.

Is that a culinary/social observation or a mathematical expression?

In my experience, you dont get enough meat- you can go for seconds of veg only but not meat, and it's full of frightul people in sportswear and hoopy ear-rings. Good value though

I wouldn't go in a Toby carvery if it was free personally. That and Brewers Fayre, dreadful food.

no you wouldn't, but I be glad if you'd prove me wrong, but make sure you put the evidence on youtube and post the link

anyway, you can't lick your own armpit, or is it your elbow ?

I'd rather lick MattC's armpit. Those chain pubs are the dullest places in the world, and a carvery is the dullest way to eat dull food. At least in McDonalds you get people in sportswear fighting each other for entertainment. Mind you I havn't been to either for years so what do I know :)

As a student I don't see any problem with the food in our local Toby carvery, good prices too, only thing that annoys me is that you have to always leave someone behind in your seats when you go up to get the food otherwise guaranteed you'll come back and some chav will be sat there spitting out some silly phrase like "am i bothered" or something like that

That's because the sort of person who eats there would complain the veg is 'too hard' if it were cooked properly (no offence to the regular clientelle on here).
