Ok so ditched the big ring and bought a new middle 36t and 36t size E-Thirteen bashguard. Not fitted them yet but when placed on top of each other the bashguard is about half an inch bigger in circumference than the chainring.

Does this difference sound about right? Just seems a bit much, ie bashguard could possibly be smaller..... Not had a great deal to do with bashguards and such as you can tell ! Cheers for any enlightenment :)

    Circumference?

    You mean radius, or diameter?

The bash ring should be bigger than the middle ring, that way it protects it when you slide over rocks, or bash into something.

A 36T ring should have a radius about 0.7cm less than the bashguard.

Cheers for that Whytepeak. Like I said when the bashguard is placed on top of the chainring it protrudes/overlaps it by 1.2 cm all the way round, if that makes sense!

Its no big deal to be honest, though the 0.7cm you quoted sounded more appropriate for the overlap of the bashguard. Maybe E-thirteens are made to protrude that much over the chainring they're protecting?

    Thanks for the feedback anyway
