I worked in the old social security and job centre, for ten years. I left 5 years ago but I always recall the Royal Mail xmas recruitment drive. They would take on anyone, seriously. One time a guy signing on with me told me he walked out of Royal Maill after 20 years (his P45 supported this fact) as he could not believe how much stealing, opening of parcels, letters etc - especially bank card letters. Of course, not endemic of all who work there, but it still resonates with me when things just dont arrive.....

Poor training and can't be @rsed attitude?

Been down to the RM depot today to ask about a parcel that was sent to me on 6th Jan recorded delivery. Have not had so much as a card thru the door to say they'd tried to deliver it. Sure, they had the parcel and no, they hadn't even attempted to deliver it yet, citing that they only had one driver for our area. .

Don't even get me started on the council and bin collections (had no collection since 22nd December)!

RM employing "temps" with little, no training and some found to have criminal records!

Also, lately weather playing big part, and Ebay responsible - indirectly - for increase in mail parcel volume, leading to delays: More parcels, less letters, same number of staff? What's gonna happen?

RM have also "sacked" or voluntary retired 50,000 staff over the last 6 yrs.

Posties rounds are approx 500 houses here, with "officially" 3.5 hrs to deliver sometimes to every house, with crappy door-to-door leaflets, BT bills and Council's "Look how great we are and doing all this for you" crappy info too.

So, here's afew reasons why your stuff didn't arrive.Wonder in the Haitian's are also worrying about their late post too, or maybe they're too busy with other things?
Kinda puts things in perspective, dontcha think?!

Royal Mail lost some bike bits in my local depot. By way of an apology they sent me a letter saying "sorry for my loss" etc & that " we deliver 80 million items of mail a day"

I'm not interested in 79,999,999 of them just my 1!

    Bag o sh1te!

Thanks for the support, nicensleazy! RM as a company doesn't do a great job, BUT...it's the posties, drivers etc that do.
Having worked since the early 70's, and being PT for RM for 5yrs, they are the WORST employers I know.
If I had hair, they'd make it curl!!!!

My post has been the subject of theft for ages and some of the stuff that does make it through was obviously opened up and I just got lucky that whoever it was didn't fancy it.
People always say a private company would be worse but I've never had anything stolen from me by a private firm. Make of that what you will.

Well thats what I mean really. The workers do a great job. I watched that interesting documentary recently about the posties etc. I couldn't believe that there was an offical timed pace to walk at. Even an ex Royal Marine with his trolly full of letters found it a struggle and I don't think completed his round in the time persiod. Pathetic! Yet again, a great public service run by the people for the people. Also, RM doesn't need to make a profit, as long as their is enough income coming in to pay the workers, rolling stock etc. You can't run RM like a private company. But in time, one of these pathetic governments will sell of RM and will go into the private sector. You can see were capitalism has got us.......in a deep deep pile of steaming Sh&t!

They clearly don't employ everyone, I applied at Royal mail via online and never heard a thing back, and I don't have criminal records. They did not even see my CV. I've just logged into royal mail jobs and it's still showing as *submitted*, you'd have thought it'd have being declined by now?

They have to draw the line somewhere. Even Royal Mail have some standards.

I actually have an operators licence to run a mail delivery service.
Nobody seems to be interested in saving a bit of money and having a more reliable service --- certainly a local accountantancy firm, who after 2 days couldnt be arsed to sort their mail into local only.... I should have checked their car park... accountants dont need to save pennies... they obviously shit money out of their arses

  • Come on Will where's your sense of humour??? You did walk into that one!!!

RM have been shocking for me lately. Postman delivering half my letters to flat upstairs, next door, over 8 parcels gone missing in 11 months.

Well it was'nt very funny. I actually wondered why Royal Mail chosen to basically ignore the application.

Fffs! Whats that got to do with RM not delivering parcels ?

I've had 2 parcels both signed for go missing over the last 3 months. Both STILL showing as within RM's delivery network when you try the barcode tracker on the RM website.....I had an xmas card from a friend, posted 16th Dec as per the stamp arrive on the 12th jan.

    Useless.
