Ok, so it's easy to find a converter to attach a post mount brake caliper to an IS fork, but can you get an adaptor to go the other way? Someone is offering me a bit of a steal on a nice set of fox forks but i have an IS type XTR caliper. Is such a conversion possible? Can i just use the normal converter in reverse? Should i just get off my fat lazy arse and ask my LBS?

Yes, you can get them. But you may have to install a larger rotor.0

you will need a 20mm bigger disc.
been asked about 3 times this week."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
