New vs. Older brakes

Ok I have bought a set of 2008 Juicy Carbon's...and I should have asked this question before I bought them :P
I was looking at the reach adjustment as I want a firm feel with less travel than my Avid Elixir 5 that came with the bike.
So what are your view? Should I put these levers and calipers on my bike, will they be an upgrade? Or have the year on year marketed improvements mean the 2010 Avid Elixir 5 are as good as the 2008 Carbon's?
