Off the back of another post, what is the most shameful gig you have been to and why ?

My crime, BROS in 1988, Hammersmith Appollo. I was 17, up with a mate visiting his Aunt in Hammersmith, saw loads of girls outside the Appollo, and in we went. Dont think my Smiths T shirt went down too well.

Um, Curiosity Killed the Cat. About '85 or 86. But prob not that shameful for a girl (even tho they were a one-hit-wonder) - we all loved Ben Volpierrepierrot. See, I even remember his name!

Michael Jackson - The Haugh - Glasgow 1992

I'm really sorry and very ashamed but....

Lindisfarne - Green's Playhouse - Glasgow 1971 or 1972 (but the support act were a brilliant group which I went to see - not Lindisfarne HONEST!)

When I was (about) 11 I asked my Dad to take me with him to see Kiss in Wolverhampton. He said no. My Mum felt sorry for me and offered to tak me to a concert with her, so instead of seeing Kiss I went to see Shakin Steven's. I wouldn't mind, but his green door was more like cyan blue!

I have NEVER let my Dad forget that. grrr...

    not sure about 'shameful'.....but...

Prefab Sprout at Reading Uni - possibly the dullest gig I have ever been to. Left after a few songs.....which all sounded the same anyway...

Martha & the Muffins at Reading Uni - we only went to hear them play 'echo beach' and the b@stards made us wait until the encore for it.....

Maybe only one hit , but a great album. I was reminded of Curiosity recently while shopping in Morrison's , they played Down to Earth on their in-store system !

  • I went ot some absolute hippy dreck in my university days to try and get in some gurl's pants. chiz chiz.

On a lighter note my brother saw teh ordinary boys in Hull's Adelphi (think your front room with live music). After 3 songs he turned to his mate and said "These are sh!t, I'm off". As the room was quiet he's certain the band heard. Good lad!

I should add that by far and away the most fun i ve ever had at a gig was Bowling for Soup supported by American HiFi! A load of drunk/stoned students having an absoloute whale of a time remembering when they were 16!

Nope, that one's mass-made in China I'm afraid. I got it because it comes with a dog in the front shopping basket. You like?

U2 live is nothing to be ashamed about andyrubio. I saw them at Wembley in 86 and they were awesome. And I would have given my right arm to go and see Duran Duran back then

Aha around the same time (free tix)
Duran a couple of times incl one club gig when they got a new gtr player
Wet,Wet.Wet (one in an arena and once in a tiny club pre arena tour when they just played soul covers all night - rather well)
Elton a few times but his early stuff is good.

Sorry - but your head needs a good shake if you think U2 is a crap band.

I'm no fan of theirs, but seriously.

not ashamed of them but Dire Straits and The Police were a disgrace to the Toon
  • I also have to 'fess up to a U2 - again in the early 80's. They were crap crap crap, even in their heyday.
