I need a pair of 20kg (each) dumbells for home use.

I cannot find anywhere that will do them, even if I get the handles and make up the weight with various weighted plates.

Any ideas? I've used that weight at proper gyms before so they must be available. And I didn't think 20kg was that heavy anyway. Unless you're aa gayer.

you can make a mould out of wood, then just get a load of roofing lead and melt it into the mold-wear a respirator as lead fumes arent too healthy
Dont look at it-ride it! they are tools not f*cking ornaments

I think I'll just spend £80 instead! Better than dying!

A respirator would probably cost more...

If you do a lot with dumbells at various weights try some of these http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-32-5kg-selectabell-dumbbells.php Can give the range of a full rack but without the huge storage space required. I've had a set of these now for 2 years with no problems other than them been a little longer than normal and 2.5kg increments.

Craig - cheers but £260 is a but much!!

Just looking to continue my maintenance routine - did the big lifting stuff years ago, put on three stone, trimmed a bit off (so I could still run, cycle and surf) and now just do it to stay fit/in shape.

That's why I was asking about using various weights in your dumbell rountines as they cover a wide range and quick to change.

Get an Oly bar and some bumper plates.

    Craig - sorry if I appeared narky. I wasn't!

I think I'll get those weights in that link (York ones). They look ideal.

York ones ordered - cheers Barrie!

Feel sorry for the poor courier though - hard to get up our drive in a van and it's a hell of a trek even without 40kgs!
  • I'd get a dumbell kit of weights, so you can adjust the weight for different exercises. I change the weight i'm using (on most exercises) throughout my reps. Think I'd be lost just having a pair of 10kg and a pair of 20kg dumbells.

Yeah there's a big difference between the two.
  • Yo surf Matt look out for a cheap kettle bell theyre pretty versatile and good fun too!
Some clever dick will say how they just the same as dumb bells really, but the big blow on the end requires far more stability to control.

Try doing a turkish get up with your dumbell but balance the end of it on ur hand (dont hold the grip), but mind ur head!!!. ul c wot i mean about stability and from your previous correspondance ur sure to have a weak side.

DISCLAIMER: PHYSIOSTEVE ACCEPTS NO BLAME FOR INJURY CAUSED WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED EXERCISE, YOU DO SO ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK....!

Safe version perform turkish get up with a trainer balanced on a tight fist
Couple of 5 spots, a hummer and a handjob.....
  • Agree with physiosteve? Think about kettlebells. Click on the following link http://www.brianmac.co.uk/articles/scni13a5.htm, which if you scroll down to 'Are kettlebells really this effective?' explains the benefits of training with kettlebells. Article also descibes some exercises. Although article is written by a Martial Arts Coach, content relavent to many other sports. See here for mountain biking specific kettlebell training http://www.bikejames.com/ipod-videos/swing/. If you google kettlebells you'll see they range in price from £40-70 each, slightly more expensive than dumbbells, but worth in my opinion.

Too late! I have ordered some dumbells.

Been working out intensively since I was 16 (now 34) so got a good idea of what works and what doesn't.

Okay folks - DO NOT use Gymworld - utterly appalling service. I cancelled my order with the muppets.

Just went to Argos and bought a 50kg chrome York dumbell and barbell set for £99. Job done!

Felt a right t1t picking them up though - especially loading them into a big black BMW... :lol:

Bloody hell - 20kg is definitely a lot heavier than 10kg...

Now that was a proper work out!
