I had the original ipod, but it broke. Then the one with the colour screen, but that broke, finally had the shuffle, but someone broke it!
So...looking for a sub £50 music player, that holds 1,000 tracks or so. Gotta be tuff tho...
Mate of mine's got a Creative, which he loves.
Also, Triathlon mag did test on small mp3's and ipod and I don't recall ipod winning.
Any suggestions/recommendations? TA!

when phones have decent mp3 players and enough space as you can afford to buy memory card wise i dont see why anyone would have a dedicated mp3 player. thats my advice....the bicycle is the most efficient machine ever created: Converting calories into gas, a bicycle gets the equivalent of three thousand miles per gallon...0

i suppose. hadnt occured to me as i tend to get fed up afer an hour or so of music and turn it off - always enough battery for that.
if you wanted to listen for hours, and depending on phone i assume too, then battery life would be an issue. caveat duly added to my adviice...the bicycle is the most efficient machine ever created: Converting calories into gas, a bicycle gets the equivalent of three thousand miles per gallon...0 -

I use a Creative Zen, can't get much smaller or basic but it does the job and is tough as old boots.0 -
I like these if your after somethin small
The reviews aren't that great though. They die if you get sweat into the units.
For one that small the creatives and the sonys look good as does the shuffle, but I don't like the new one with no buttons I'm not sure if you can use any headphones although I haven't looked into it.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

manage 4 hours + of play back from my iphone and its still going strong for battery life. hell managed 2 movies from the thing and it was still at 1/2 battery. so haveign a phone and mp3 player all in one just works well..
also you dont miss calls when you are using th e mp3 player.Nothing in life can not be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas

Another vorte for Creative here.
If you like pose value, go for Ipod - if you prefer sound quality, go for Creative. I have a Zen and it is absolutely brilliant in comparisson to my previous Ipod..

Old sony ericsson K800i with a 1gb memory card, tough as old boots, battery lasts yoks and is easy to use.0

Creative Zen for me too, size of a credit card, you can upgrade the memory as you desire and fits nicely in a jersey pocket with minimum weight penalty!"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I like the fact that a phone/mp3 is combined when out riding.0

I reckon - and don't quote me on this - that the juice required for a phone to play mp3s is negligable (especially if the phone wouldn't otherwise be turned off). You need quite a bit of oomph for a radio transmission.0

If you could afford a few pounds more I highly recommend this. I have the 8gb one and it's great. (Read the some of the 71 reviews).
After reading reviews, I also bought it for the battery life which (truely) is over 30 hours, for travelling with. Also handy if you travel with 'travel speakers' for use at your destination. Has easy drag and drop for downloading.

Old Sony Ericsson W880i, not much bigger than an idiotpod and makes phone calls too.0

I had both but not at the same time and the Sony was second hand when I got it.
Even made a holder that could be put on and had it under my arm.
