Depends on what kind of work you want to do.What have you got experience in? what are you passionate about?

Yeah you can come and work for me, clean the cars, keep the garden in check, that sort of thing. I'll even let you sleep in the shed.

Speak to your local care home then mate... a friend of mine went from Landscaping, and is now a carer, working towards his qualifications.. he loves it too, gets a great sense of satisfaction helping pelple out.

Care homes are usually very happy to accept volunteers.

this is not trying to be funny, but i am guessing volunteer work in Haiti would be a good option at the mo. It is truly sad what has happened there in the last 48hrs.

Apparently this is going to dwarf the tsunami :(
  • I agree Haiti is a worthwhile cause but talk about jumping in at the deep end.

My lad has just started doing some volunteer work at a local care/residential home showing some of the residents how to use the computer. He's doing it for his Duke of Edinburgh Award and contacted his local volunteer services agency in Halifax to find the placement. Most organisations are desparate for good volunteers. If you Google 'volunteer services' for your local area you should get the peopel you need to contact.

They also sorted out his CRB check (which you'll need these days)
Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.

I help with St John's Ambulance as a volunteer first aider, my enhanced disclosure went through no problems and I'm starting my training in March on the 3-day course; after that I hope to differentiate into the Cycle Response Team of the London and/or Bournemouth division!

St John's Ambulance is a good place to start, but having volunteer-work on your CV will in no way enhance it, it may perhaps have the opposite effect.

Thing is, with this organisation you must do a minimum amount of hours per year, I think it is 50 per year - to make the costs worthwhile, something I may struggle with in my career!

Good luck and glad to see there are still level-headed people about like yourself.
