What does C2C on bikes mean?
Surely it can't be coast to coast0 -
"winter 1st cat" - Someone who trains too hard in the winter so is very good early on. They normally fade mid season.
"hammering it" - Going very hard.
"chewing bar tape" - Trying so hard that getting very very low down makes a big effort. Like when you're bridging across to a breakaway in a race.0 -

I always thought that a 'winter' first cat was a rider who got his 1st cat licence through riding off-season circuit races when there is no decent opposition...???
Where I used to live, we had a reference to 'Rushmoor' 1st cats, who got their 1st cat licences by riding the local Wednesday evening crit series - but they could rarely hack it in open 1/2/3 road races...0 -

Errrr - no? C2C is a Bianchi model. Coast to Coast.0 -

No C2C means coast to coast, there's even a Sustrans C2C route.

But not referring to the ride from Cumbria to Sunderland! They have a similar ride in Italy called coast to coast. In fact I think one of the Italian classics or a short tour is nicknamed coast to coast - can't remember what it is at the moment though - possibly Tirreno-Adriatico?

"winter 1st cat" - as people have said, either they train way to hard and are flying in february (me last year!) or they collect points from races no one in their right mind would contend that early on in the season.
"hammering it" - balls out, smashing it, going for it etc
"chewing bar tape" - Everyone who's raced has been here. Bent right over the bike, grimacing, teeth literally almost clattering off the bars, usually when some sod is putting the hammer down.
"Pedalling in squares" - having a crap pedalling technique. Some people look horrible naturally, some people only look horrible when they're blown completely. Usually not very fluid with pretty much 4 distinct parts to each stroke (trying to think of a modern example, but there isn't really that many)"A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

Cheers folks.
At the risk of sounding like a chopper I'm assuming "bonking" (in cycling terms) is the same as "hitting the wall", is this correct?0 -
it means you are shagged... hehe0

Correct. Basically running out of fuel to the point where you can barely muster the energy to pray for death to come and end it all now.

I always took winter 1st cat to mean someone who hammered everyone on the club runs but faded to an also ran when the racing season started.0

Usually every club has one. It's always the guy who wants to go balls out every ride over winter thinking he's super strong when everyone else wants to keep it steady, only for his head to fall off about march.
They usually turn up in about October to piss everyone else off all winter again."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"
