A good idea for bike security?

I don't think they're going to be any harder for a thief to get through than a standard lock, but an alarm might be a deterrent, especially if you lock your bike up in a public place.

  • really, really, REALLY fecking annoying if you're using one of those racks which is lots of sheffield stands rolled into one. One person at our uni has one of these. Every single time a bike is added or removed from the giant rack thingummy, this fricking alarm goes off. Jebus. I'd not buy one on general principle. Plus, if his bike DID ever get nicked, people would just assume it was yet another false alarm, and ignore it.

How much notice does anybody pay to car alarms?

This lock is awesome! 18mm shackle and has a built in alarm!

My second link to this in two days, but:

Quite a few blokes on here are using alarmed motorbike brake disc locks to lock through the front chain rings.

Pretty much unbreakable without knackering the bike due to their design and some make 110db of noise. Admittedly they are annoying if used in close proximity to other bikes, but they are very useful if you have to leave your bike in a shared hallway!
