I can't find this on the Direct Line webby anywhere... but
If you change your car 1/2 way through yuor policy what happens?
Can you just change the car on the policy?
or do you lose your year no cliam and have to start again from scratch?
Also, as the car i'm looking at is a smaller engine and lower insurance group, would I get the insurance cost reduced and the money refunded?
I already know that if I took out a new policy, it would be around £500 cheaper... I just don't wan to ahve wasted 6months hoping to build up my NCB!

if you keep your insurance with the same provider i believe you carry on your no claims. and yes i think you'll get a refund if you paid up front, or a reduced monthly direct debit. minus an admin fee of course0

You'll get striped whatever you do.
My R32 got crashed into - not my fault at all. Insurance went up. It then got vandalised twice in two nights (failed attempts to nick the 18" alloys) - my insurance nearly DOUBLED.
Both for things that weren't my fault.
Car insurance sucks. Although it's less of a pain when you're an old git like me.
Almost 300bhp and more torque than a Gallardo - £400 fully comp with BMW Insurance.
Even an Evo FQ360 was only £600 (had I got one).
Thank you very much.0 -
i chop and change cars almost as often as with bikes and every time, the insurance company allow the change, maintain the no claims and adjust my monthly direct debit. more often than not it involves an increase but a few times i have had my direct debit reduced by a good ammount.
if you had paid upfront you will get a refund of the extra but it wont be as much as you expect for whatever reason the insurance company uses.0 -
Be careful with Direct Line.
My missus recently crashed my car into a lampost in the ice, not a massive amount of damage but enough to make me think about going through the insurance, i`ve got protected no claims.
When i took out the policy it was on an N-reg 1.25 fiesta £200 excess, I changed my car in Sept to a BMW 120d phoned direct line to change the details, and payed the extra premium. At no point was the excess mentioned. Month or so later I changed the wheels, rang to inform, payed the extra premium, again excess not mentioned.
When the missus had a bump last week I got the documents out to check excess, found the original 120 documentation, which stated excess £375 which I could have stood. When i rang I was told that the excess went up to £575 with the new wheels.
Now I know i`m a numpty for not checking my policy documents when they came through but £575 from £200 is takin the p*ss.
Anyway, I told them to freeze the claim and that i would get a few quotes myself and found a bodyshop that wil do the job for £450. Still a kick in the balls but at least I keep my NCD. Needless to say I will be changing insurers next year.0 -
I can't see them giving you a reduction if you're under 25. I changed to a smaller engine car and had to pay an extra £50 or so over the space of a couple of months. They seem to assume that you're changing cars because something happened to the last one and rather than claim for it, you've bought a new one in replacement.
Insurance = Satan :evil:It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

One of my mates, who's 22, can't get insured to learn on his parents' cars because he first got his provisional when he was 17, to use as ID. So the insurance companies assume that he's been having proper lessons for 5 years, still hasn't passed and therefore is a terrible driver!0
