Evening all,

Some friends and I are planning to come up from Brighton to ride Cwmcarn for the first time this weekend coming, what is the likely hood it'll be rideable? I know all this depends on the next few days weather but does the snow and ice normally hang around along time on the trails?

Thanks for insight,

Cheers.........

Shaun

it's still really icy up here, not sure what the actual trail is like. we're forecast another 15cms of snow tonight!

if you're coming up from brighton i'd probably give it a miss and come up in a couple of weeks, you'll only be disappointed with it if you travel all this way and can't ride it :(

or ask me on fri morning and i'll give you an update :D

That'll be great thanks for the heads up........ not looking good but if there's a slim chance it's rideable then we'd love to come down, but might just have to wait a few weeks or so..... :-(

i'll be interested in the update Kev, I'm looking to ride it on Sunday, local temp for Sat is 8ish degrees and mild up until then, snow falling atm but I'm hoping most of it's gone by the weekend. I'll have a look for that illusive 'black run' that I've heard not so much about  :D

local temp and cwmcran temp dont really correlate too well, i have seen it rain up cwmcarn on a clear day lol. seriously tho it is always a few degrees colder near the top of cwmcarn than the bottom which is still colder than the nearest towns.
i may go up by the wkend, if i do i will post conditions. beware of ice if you do the DH tracks

sounds rideable for the most part but not that much fun oh and watch out for fallen trees, there were a few biggies last week that had fallen

 another weekends riding ruined by the blinkin weather. If you've experienced snow in the last few days Paul I'm guessing the trail will be largely unridable at higher altitudes. I'm still wanting to go on Sunday, If anyone goes up before Sunday it would be great to have a report (Rhyko) []thumbs up[/]

I can't bear another sleep inducing ride around the flat lands of Cardiff

well, it's rained a lot up here this morning and the weather is slightly warmer so the snow is melting slowly. i still would give it a miss if you're coming a long way though. squarepants might be worth a quick trip if you're only coming from cardiff though :D

i've rung both cwmcarn and glyncorrwg pons this morning re trail conditions> lady at cwmcarn visitor centre said that since the snow on tuesday evening the trail has been impassable with snow 1 foot deep and its basically completely unridable!!
Glyncorrwg much the same story - roads to the centre are now clear but snow up to a foot deep and the few bikers that have been up there have got to the gate at the trail head before turning back and deciding against it - not worth the trip! :(

Just got back myself from riding around margam park (2mins away) was good to be out on the bike but serious lack of good trails!

don't they have a huge xc race at margam every year? or did you just mean that the trails are not very good because of the weather?

yeh they do have a huge xc race in margam but i'm unsure of the actual route (read: no bloody idea of the track!) so just pootled around for an hour or so! it was still very muddy & snow drifts in the park too...

Cheers Kev! I'm praying for a miracle, I haven't been out properly for time now (inni bra). I'm loosing fitness and getting impatient..

Thanks Paul, wish you were wrong  I'm gonna take this one to the wire, might ring myself (or wait for an update on here - take your mobiles people) on Sunday AM.

Ooooh am I gonna be grumpy if I cant have a proper ride again this weekend :x

i went up and rode Risca DH tracks today which is right next to Cwmcarn and didnt see any snow up there, i think it should be 95% gone now.
