Hi all,

I've got a 2008 Giant FCR (http://www2.giant-bicycles.com/en-GB/bikes/road/1400/28829/?collections_id=3).

I'm thinking about putting a triple chainset on it but am not quite sure what I need. I know it's got an external bottom bracket and think it's HollowTech II but not really sure what this means in terms of what chainset I can fit.

Any explanation and links to examples would be gratefully received.

Ta!

    1. Why?

    2. You already have a compact 50/34 with a 12-25 rear cassette.

    3. If you change the chainset to a triple, you'll probably need a new triple front mech and also a new shifter = £££

the R440 shifters are triple-ready so you just need:

    - the R440 triple front mech
    - any Shimano HT2 triple chainset (CRC were selling Ultegras for £100 recently)
    - possibly a longer chain
    - a triple rear mech (any Shimano long-cage road will do)

the last one can be optional but only a long-cage will ensure all gears are achievable. I agree though, I'm no fan of triples either but you may have a very good reason so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt
