My good lady was kind enough to get me a catlike whisper plus helmets for Christmas, very please and surprised I was too. In white, size large.

Haven’t tried it on until just now, as the weather hasn't been kind enough to let me out yet. It feels comfy, a good fit, but looks massive, sides sticking out and height wise.

I'm used to wearing a Bell lid so thought I'd go online to see how they fit others and took a look at pics of the Cervelo and Euskaltel boys and theirs all look more compact in relation to their heads.

Now I don't really give a monkeys and it won't stop me wearing it as I love it; but got me to thinking do the pro's have custom size lids made do you reckon, or am I just a Mekon style freak

I had a Catlike Whisper until I crashed and totalled it.

I bought a Catlike Whisper Plus as a replacement, and it is really really really bulky compared to the old one. I guess the "plus" does mean more.

Doesn't fit anywhere near as good as the old helmet either.

I remember something about some manufacturers providing teams with small sizes scooped out to reduce the mushroom head look. I admit, some pros helmets look like this might be true.

I have this same problem. My Bell looks great on the CSC riders but makes me look like a weeble!

I'm pretty sure they get custom lids in the pro's...

I'd be very surprised if they have different tooling sets just for the proteams - wouldn't make much sense. What size helmets do you use ? The larger shells would be bigger. Maybe pros just have small heads ?

My sine thesis looks bad ass, I look like I may be considering doping possibly. (I am actually)

I have WAY toooo much time on my hands I know, but I emailed Catlike, I wanted to know if the new lids were the ones the pro's used and I mentioned the 2008 model. They didn't give me a direct answer about the pro's, but said this about the 2008 model compared to the new one (so I guess that maybe is what the pro's wore):
'if you compare the whisper plus to the whisprer plus 2008, the helmet has been modified, the helmet has become wider/larger because due to the modification in the airholes, these have become bigger to optimize the ventalation.'

Totally fair enough and good on them for taking the time to reply so quickly :D I will still wear mine with pleasure, even if I do look like Toad from Mario Bros (mind you I do in any helmet I've got such a big bonce):

Regarding design, I am fairly sure you can have a custom painted Catlike helmet.

You can get them customised, look for motorbike helmet designers and you can get a tacky tiger airbrushed on.

As for special helmets, no, they are usually off-the-shelf jobs. Some riders do mix and match shoes. For example Armstrong is backed by Nike but won't wear their shoes.
