Help!

I am looking for a pair of prescription glasses - suitable for road cycling (ie tight fight, relatively aero dynamic and with suffciently tough lenses to protect eyes from flying debris) - that would also have the ability to take clip on sunglass lenses for when the good weather returns.... does such a product exist?

Currently riding with regular glasses in winter & contacts/sunglasses in the summer - which works but is not ideal.

Does anybody have experience of such a product?

Thanks

What about something like this? Your prescription insert sits behind a polycarbonate lense which you can swap depending on conditions so clear lenses or tinted.

not sure if it's exactly what you want, but lots of mainstream sports shades like Bolle and Oakley are available with prescription lenses - probably not cheap though...

    another to try...

    http://www.gosportsspex.co.uk/

    they have a few options...

If you do not wear spectacles then look out for the "None Rx" Logo on our products.
"Direct Rx" - means we place the prescription powered lenses directly into the frame, mask or goggle.
"Insert Rx" - means that we use a frame, mask or goggle and place a special insert behind the outer protective lens with your prescription spectacle lens in it.
"Ready Rx" - Some of our goggles, spectacles or masks have lenses already made for them. As they are produced in large quantities it means the price is usually favourable. You may find that your prescription isn't suitable for this type - eg if you are highly astigmatic or need both reading and distance lenses.

You can buy safety glasses that are copies of Oakley M's, (but with clear lenses) . I have a couple of pairs and will quite often just wear a pair over prescription lenses or my contacts.

They're dirt cheap from anywhere that sells safety gear and fit the bill being tight fitting, arodynamic and fairly good looking (none of which would describe me).
  • Dim question - so who does the prescription inserts? glassesdirect and so on? Or who?

The inserts come with the glasses and you get your prescription fitted to them by your optician (cue sad optician with you could have bought a pair of these from us tale)

Hi Tigerben, I notice you wear contacts so it might be worth just getting normal cycling glasses with interchangeable lens? I have a nice simple set that I use with my contacts in all weather. Something like this:

I haven't tried the set above but it might be a good cheap option.

    Dude also look at these

    Kontrol sports prescription glasses

The missus got the moondog 2 rx offer for christmas. I'd been after some shades for ages but couldn't get or afford addidas/oakleys due to my strong prescription. The set of 3 are cheap and very good quality. When I took the insert to my local opticion who sells addidas and oakleys. He thought the offer was excellent and the glasses really good quality. He especially liked the way the inserts fitted and how secure they felt. Even saying that he felt the quality was better than the well known makes that have rx inserts.
So now I have 3 different pairs of glasses which I can use for riding and have also been good whilst driving especially with the amount of glare coming from snow/ ice/ low sun.

As you may have guessed I'm over the moon with mine. They have become a godsend. Now all I need is more chance to use them

There is also this website which does cycling glasses to quite high prescriptions without the need for inserts. (I've not saved enough pennies to try them yet though)
If you want adaptability for light and dark conditions they also do a photochromic option.http://www.optilabs.com/site/prods.php?pfid=0,8,11
