+1 At times, Peter Green was up with the all-time greats for his ''vocal-style'' guitar phrasing. Probably the last white blues guitarist to let the instrument breathe and then sing. Not a bad voice, either.

The missus bought me an SG for my Xmas so at the moment am mostly trying to emulate Derek Trucks.

I should really aim a little lower...

The slide playing from the 2nd minute onwards is mind boggling - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et_4zxne ... re=related

Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan live in Toronto around 1985 2 years before Healey made it big with See The Light

Here's up and coming bluesman Albert Cummings

He was "discovered" by Stevie Ray Vaughans old band Double Trouble who played on and sponsored his first release. They also helped him to sign up for Blind Pig Records

I discovered him thro' itunes genius program one of it's better finds :)

I was just thinking the same thing.
There are so many good blues guitarists but for me it's always the ones with their own personal sound and phrasing that do it for me. So SRV is the boss - strat strung with 13's - what a sound  . BB King- one note is all you need, but boy what a note 8)

Sorry there are just too many. I'd be here all night especially if I got into the Jazzy guys - Kenny Burrell (big influence on SRV) and Grant Green (my hero)

Ah yes, John Mayer. Young, talented and he's sh*gged Jennifer Aniston, no wonder he sings the blues!

    Great thread!

    in no particular order:

    BB King
    Ry Cooder
    Buddy Guy
    Robert Johnson
SRV (though maybe a bit too rock n roll to be a true bluesman)
    Albert King

    I could go on....

Some great you tube clips of Guy and King playing together, but the way Ry Cooder plays slide just makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I find him a bit too eclectic these days, well since the mid 80s really.
